Understanding Bale Sizes

Large stacks of hay bales outside a barn.

We offer several bale sizes to meet the needs of horses for private farms, boarding facilities, trainers, ranches, feedlots, dairy’s and more.

BALES WE OFFER AT HERITAGE HAY

2-Tie Bales

3x4x8 Large Square Bales

2-Tie Bales

Traditional small square bales secured with two strings. These are easy to handle by one person and are ideal for individual horse owners, small farms, and daily feeding. Depending on the forage type and moisture, they typically weigh 40–75 pounds.

3-Tie Bales

3x4x8 Large Square Bales

2-Tie Bales

A larger version of the small square bale, secured with three strings. These bales contain more hay, reduce handling time, and are a popular choice for boarding barns, equine facilities, and livestock operations. Depending on the forage, they typically weigh 90–130 pounds.

3x4x8 Large Square Bales

3x4x8 Large Square Bales

3x4x8 Large Square Bales

Commercial-sized large square bales measuring approximately 3 feet × 4 feet × 8 feet. These high-density bales are designed for bulk storage, feedlots, dairies, ranches, export, and large-scale agricultural operations. They generally weigh 1,200–1,600 pounds, depending on the type of hay and moisture content, and require equipment such as a tractor or forklift for unloading and handling.

Compressed Bales

Compressed Bale

Compressed bales are high-density small square bales that have been mechanically compressed to maximize shipping efficiency and reduce storage space. While they are similar in size to traditional small bales, they are much denser and contain more forage per cubic foot, these bales typically weight 60/75 pounds.
